What are your press registration policies?

Complimentary press credentials are issued only to qualified journalists (reporters, editors, freelance writers and news photographers, producers, etc.) working for media outlets relevant to the housing industry.

Non-editorial/Paid press registration is available for marketing, public relations, advertising, sales, publishers, book authors, book editors and other non-editorial employees of a media organization who plan to engage in any sales or marketing activities. Satellite media tours are strictly prohibited.

Freelancers/Still Photographers:

Freelance writers and photographers must submit a letter from the news organization they are representing on that company's letterhead and signed by the editor describing what they have been hired to cover.

Bloggers:

Press registration for bloggers and other online media outlets will be considered on a case-by-case basis by NAHB Communications. Bloggers seeking press credentials must demonstrate a history of regular editorial coverage of the housing industry and new posts on at least a weekly containing the author’s byline.  The industry-related blog must adhere to a standard of professional responsibility regulating institutional journalism, such as editing, fact-checking and disclosure of conflicts of interest. Corporate blogs will not be considered. Permissions will be granted entirely at NAHB’s discretion.

Production Companies:

Production companies must pre-register under NAHB's policy on taping at IBS and may not register on site at the show. Production crews and broadcast media should refer to the “Policy Regarding Production Groups and Taping at IBS” for a complete list of requirements. Charges may apply.

Radio Shows:

NAHB will offer two designated 10x10 booth areas located off the show floor for approved radio shows to use for broadcasting or interviews. Radio shows must request specific timeslots to use a booth. The booth will be available for use during show hours, and timeslots will be allotted on a first come, first served basis at the sole determination of NAHB Public Affairs. Booths will be equipped with a standard phone line, table and four chairs. Shows are responsible for arranging for all other necessary equipment. During appointed timeslots, the booth must be manned by radio show staff at all times. Timeslots will be limited to a two-hour window, plus time for set up and breakdown. These restrictions do not apply to radio shows broadcasting from exhibitors’ booths.

To request use of booth space, please contact Liz Thompson, media relations manager at ethompson@nahb.org

In-house Publication Employees:

In-house newsletter writers, book authors, book editors and publishers do not qualify as working press.

Publishers:

Publishers must register as non-editorial paid press. However, publishers who also act in an editorial capacity for their publication may be considered for complimentary press credentials by demonstrating a regular history of bylined articles written for the publication, if no other editorial staff from the publication are attending. Publishers will be granted credentials at NAHB’s discretion.

Public Relations Activities Prohibited:

It is the policy of NAHB to require all persons requesting complimentary press credentials to disclose, in advance, whether they will be conducting any business other than reporting while at the Show. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Requesting/receiving any form of compensation in exchange for the promotion of products, goods or services at the International Builders' Show.
  • Discussing opportunities for exhibitors to advertise in the representing publication.
  • Setting up appointments between exhibitors and publication representatives for further on- or off-site business dealings.
  • Engaging in any sales, marketing or public relations capacity at the show.

Prohibited activities include, but are not limited to, marketing and sales of satellite tours for or by on-air talent, producers and/or production staff, and marketing and sales of ad space for any publication of any kind by reporters, editors and/or photographers. It is an inherent conflict for a journalist to perform public relations work, paid or unpaid.

If you have any questions about whether specific activities are prohibited, please contact Paul Lopez, Director of Media Relations at plopez@nahb.org or 202-266-8409. Anyone found conducting such practices without prior, written consent from NAHB may have their credentials revoked and be removed from the premises for the duration of the Show. Individuals solely engaged in sales, marketing or any type of "pay-for-play" activities must register as paid press.

Where can I pick up press credentials or register on site?

May I bring my spouse?
