The latest, most innovative home products, technologies and design trends can be found in The New American Home ®, the showcase house produced each year in conjunction with the International Builders’ Show. The newest home in this 26-year series, now under construction in Las Vegas, builds on the program’s strong history.
Sponsored by the National Council of the Housing Industry (NCHI) and Builder Magazine, The New American Home is one of the most successful and visible programs of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). NCHI is made up of the leading product suppliers of the residential construction industry, and the show home provides an excellent way to highlight NCHI members’ products.
Equal parts laboratory, education tool and product showcase, The New American Home incorporates elements such as builders’ best practices, energy efficiency, indoor-air quality, safety, convenience and aesthetics. And it demonstrates that excellence in housing performance can be built into any home – large or small, simple or complex.
The New American Home serves as the official showcase house of the International Builders’ Show, NAHB’s annual convention and exposition that draws more than 100,000 attendees. Many new products, materials and construction techniques that become the industry standard are first seen at the show home.
With a new home built every year for the last 25 years, The New American Home has proven to be an outstanding resource for builders, designers, architects, and building trades professionals who want to keep up with leading-edge trends.
The New American Home 2009 builds on the tradition. It is a net-zero energy home that includes active solar design (photovoltaic cells), passive solar design (orientation and shading), an insulated concrete wall system, and a revolutionary gas-powered mechanical HVAC system. In addition to state-of-the-art green building technology, the home features dynamic aesthetic design, including fountains, pools and a basement-level subterranean courtyard. Visitors will look out through a wall of glass to see a waterfall that spills into the courtyard from the back yard.
Located 15 minutes from the Las Vegas Convention Center and just five minutes from the airport and “The Strip,” this year’s show home is on a half-acre lot in a neighborhood with an interesting slice of Las Vegas history. Over the years neighbors of the property have included Clark Gable and Carole Lombard, boxers Mike Tyson and Thomas “Hit Man” Hearns, the Sultan of Brunei and Mr. Las Vegas – Wayne Newton.
The New American Home 2009 was designed by Danielian Associates Architecture & Planning, a Irvine, CA; it is being built by Blue Heron, Inc.; the interior Design and Merchandising is by Robb & Stucky Interiors.
The home, which is both a show house and a for-sale product, will remain open as a model for 18 months after the show. The home builder’s target demographic will be people looking to buy their second, third or fourth home who are interested in a luxury home with a Nevada address that is minutes from the action on the strip. The community will be marketed heavily through luxury lifestyle media across the United States and around the world.
The design, construction and amenities, which showcase the latest in innovative products for the future of home building, are driven by consumer preferences and expectations. The New American Home showcases NCHI members who donate the products that go into the home, making it a highly visible in-kind sponsorship program.
Registered attendees at the 2009 International Builders’ Show can tour The New American Home during exhibit hours. Free shuttle buses depart every half hour from the Las Vegas Convention Center. Shuttle bus tickets are required and can be picked up during show hours at The New American Home’s booth in “Transportation Central” at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The show will run January 20 - 23, 2009
