Barry Tonning is an associate director at Tetra Tech, a national environmental engineering and consulting firm with more than 200 offices in the U.S. and abroad. Tonning was formerly a senior staff member of The Council of State Government's Environmental Policy Group before coming to Tetra Tech, and directed the Multi-State Working Group on Environmental Management Systems, the US EPA ORD Ecosystems Project, CSG's watershed training programs, and Ecos Magazine. Tonning served as Nonpoint Source Pollution Program Director for a five-county district in Kentucky and currently provides assistance to US EPA and state projects dealing with erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, onsite wastewater treatment, and environmental policy development. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia, and graduate degree from Morehead State University. Born in North Carolina and raised in south Georgia, Tonning worked as a tribal planner on the Winnebago Indian Reservation in Nebraska for six years before moving to Kentucky in 1983.
