Home building businesses are often run with family members involved or key employees who are like family. This can be disruptive to overall performance and results in undesired outcomes if proper planning does not take place. Add to this dynamic the idea of succession planning and who will be the next person in your seat—is it a family member, a key employee, an outsider or some combination? In the session, we'll discuss the steps needed to ensure that family member employees are looked upon like any other employee and what role(s) they should play within the business. In addition, you'll learn the keys for developing a well-thought out succession plan that provides you the comfort that the business you worked hard to build will continue.

  • Identify the key advisers and steps needed to execute a succession plan.
  • Describe the various methods of succession and possible funding mechanisms.
  • Understand how the family employee can impact the succession and estate planning of the business.
  • Recognize the steps to implement a succession plan.

Participants must be registered for a full registration package or a 1-day education with expo pass package valid for the day of the session they wish to attend. Seating for Building Knowledge sessions will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
