Alaina Money-Garman, aka Buildlikeagirl is a homebuilder, writer, and speaker. Married to her partner in business and life, Alaina is Mom to three, Stepmom to two and servant to 2 dogs and 1 cat. Alaina is the founder and CEO of Garman Homes. Known for her award winning blog, Build Like a Girl, Alaina is passionate about the role of marginalized voices in homebuilding. Alaina is alum to Professional Builder Magazine’s list of 40 Under 40 and she has also been named Builder of the Year twice - by both the Home Builders Association of Durham Orange Chatham County and Raleigh-Wake. She was the first female recipient of the award for the HBA of Raleigh-Wake. In 2023 Raleigh Magazine included her as one of 19 women Shaping the Future of Raleigh. She has served on multiple boards and is on the Executive Leadership Team for The House That She Built. Alaina served as a full member of ULI and as Chair for the Residential Neighborhood Development Council from 2020-2023. Projects of note include a 60 day build during the supply chain crisis for the Concept Home of the America at Home Study, three homes built to honor fallen soldiers with Operation Coming Home, an affordable tiny home community for people with serious mental illness and over a dozen Blitz Built homes for Habitat for Humanity. Alaina has been featured in Forbes, USA Today, ProBuilder, and Builder Magazine as well as broadcast on CNNBusiness, FoxBusiness and ScrippsNews. Alaina is known for candidly sharing deeply personal stories of struggle and triumph in the hopes of empowering and inspiring others.
