What It's About:

A demo at the 2017 HPBZBuilders accepted the wisdom of roof ventilation long ago, but they have been slower to see the value of ventilation behind siding (i.e. a rainscreen walls). We’ll explain how rainscreens improve a home’s durability and demonstrate several ways to install and detail them.

What You’ll See and Learn:

Attendees examine the frame built at the 2017 HPBZ

  • Designing for the proper air gap and why you don’t vent rainscreen walls into your roof
  • When crinkled house wrap is enough; when two layers of roof sheathing makes sense
  • Installing wood and plastic battens; detailing around doors and windows
  • Letting air in and out, but not bugs
