The Structural Insulated Panel Association (SIPA) is a non-profit association dedicated to increasing the use and acceptance of structural insulated panels (SIPs) in sustainable, high performance buildings. SIPs are a unique panelized building system for exterior walls, flooring and roofs delivering superior thermal performance, air tightness, and durability for sustainable homes and commercial buildings.
SIPs consist of a solid core of rigid foam insulation sandwiched between two layers of structural sheathing, such as oriented strand board (OSB). Their continuous insulating core eliminates thermal bridging and reduces air leakage. A variety of thicknesses and R-values are available to meet the most stringent energy codes without the addition of exterior insulation.
Working with a prefabricated building system reduces onsite framing time by 50 percent, saving labor costs, cutting cycle time, and boosting both productivity and profits.
