What It's About:
As HERS (Home Energy Rating System) scores become increasingly important to homeowners and savvy home buyers, insulation installers have to understand that their work is being inspected and graded as part of the rating process. During this demo, you’ll learn how to achieve a top score with multiple materials. See the equipment and process of installing system insulation, the care with which fiberglass and stone-wool batts have to be installed in stud bays and how to detail around pipes, wires and electrical boxes.

What You’ll See and Learn:

  • Achieve a top HERS score
  • Air seal first, then insulate
  • Importance of manufacturer’s instructions
  • Fill cavities, eliminate gaps and avoid compression
  • System insulation, batts and detail around wires, pipes and ducts

About the HPBZ Demo Stage & Building Performance Lab

Through a series of live, interactive construction demonstrations, nationally acclaimed instructors and building science experts Matt Whitbeck, Kevin Ireton and Gord Cooke will take you through the practical, real-world side of high performance building and show you the latest methods and techniques for building various components into your homes.

And to complement these demonstrations, we've added a Building Performance Lab to the HPBZ in 2017. A small, finished model home with various cut-aways and see-through sections, the Lab gives you an inside-look at how high performance wall systems, floors, HVAC, insulation and more are constructed and finished, and how the products and techniques discussed and shown on our Demo Stage translate to a real structure.
