Event Type: Live Demo

Location: High Performance Building Zone - West Concourse, Exhibit Hall WD, Booth W6157

Presenter(s): Gord Cooke  |  Kevin Ireton  |  Matt Whitbeck

What It's About:
This demo will focus on the incredible opportunity remodeling contractors have in efficiency upgrades and the priorities for integrating high-performance systems into an existing home. The use of four tools critical to high-performance remodeling—the blower door, the duct blaster, the CO monitor and the thermal-imaging camera—will be shown, and our experts will demonstrate and discuss how the use of these tools helps determine the priorities for each home.

What You’ll See and Learn:

  • The importance of developing a long-term high performance remodeling plan: you don’t have to do it all now
  • Re-roofing and re-siding are perfect times for energy upgrades
  • Critical tools and test for determining remodeling priorities
  • Should the insulation go on the inside or outside? Which option is cheaper?
  • Triple pane windows are the new double pane
  • How to avoid creating mold and moisture issues

About the HPBZ Demo Stage & Building Performance Lab

Through a series of live, interactive construction demonstrations, nationally acclaimed instructors and building science experts Matt Whitbeck, Kevin Ireton and Gord Cooke will take you through the practical, real-world side of high performance building and show you the latest methods and techniques for building various components into your homes.

And to complement these demonstrations, we've added a Building Performance Lab to the HPBZ in 2017. A small, finished model home with various cut-aways and see-through sections, the Lab gives you an inside-look at how high performance wall systems, floors, HVAC, insulation and more are constructed and finished, and how the products and techniques discussed and shown on our Demo Stage translate to a real structure.
