Barry attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, where he studied control systems engineering. Barry graduated first in his class at nuclear power school. He served on 3 nuclear submarines, including three 6-month deployments, a tour as Engineer Officer, one as Weapons Officer, and a 1998 collision that sank a South Korean fishing boat (Barry was in the engine room, and they did save the fishermen). After his last sub, Barry moved to Boston, where he earned his MBA from Harvard Business School. They then moved to Atlanta, where Barry worked for Boston Consulting Group. In 2006, Barry decided to join the homebuilding industry at the start of the worst housing recession in history. He joined Centex Homes, managing land, strategy and marketing for Jacksonville, Atlanta, and Nashville. In 2008, the Gittlemans moved from Florida back to Atlanta, and Barry spent four years with John Wieland Homes, helping with the sale of the company in 2012. Barry started the Fischer Homes Atlanta division, growing the division to 13 neighborhoods and 200 homes per year. In 2016, the family moved to Utah for the opportunity to lead Hamlet Homes. Barry is one of four managers who purchased Hamlet Homes from the founder in 2017. As President and CEO, he is responsible for the overall corporate strategy, culture, and customer experience. Barry is 2024 President of the Salt Lake Homebuilders Association and a board member of the Utah HBA. Barry resides in a Hamlet home in Draper Utah with his wife, Melinda, and son, William.
