Rick Wertheim is the Senior Vice President for Housing & Green Initiatives at United Way of Long Island. He oversees the Green/High Performance Construction, Energy Retrofit, and Workforce Development Training programs the organization offers to Long Islanders at United Way's dedicated construction training facility developed and managed by Rick. He is a graduate Architect, BPI and RESNET trained energy professional, construction manager, builder, and developer. He has constructed or renovated over 150 homes for affordable homes for United Way agencies following the program criteria of the U.S. Department of Energy's Zero Energy Ready Home program, EPA's ENERGY STAR, Indoor airPLUS, and WaterSense standards, Universal Design principles for aging in place, and HUD Healthy Homes protocols. Rick has conducted building science training programs for United Way, and in conjunction with NYSERDA, State University of New York, Stonybrook University, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the Energy and Environmental Building Alliance (EEBA).
