For the past 25 years, Jim has been a consultant with Shinn Consulting, focusing on finance, operational excellence, governance and exit/transition planning, sales & marketing management, quality and valuation issues, and process and people improvement., especially for homebuilding, land development and contracting businesses. For 12 years, Jim worked as a commercial banker and financial advisor in Denver and Los Angeles. He was involved in all kinds of real estate and construction loans. Jim was COO and partner of PrideMark Homes, a homebuilder he helped grow from $4 million in sales to $96 million in sales before it was sold to a public homebuilder. He was responsible at different times for each functional area within the company, including production, estimating, purchasing, sales, marketing, land and finance, in addition to general management. For 6 years, Jim was CFO then COO for Porchlight Developments, Ltd., a Calgary based developer of townhomes, condominiums, apartments, and senior living facilities in three provinces. Jim holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Colorado and an MBA from the University of Denver. He has held various certifications and licenses in securities, appraisal, and quality management, including Six Sagma Black Belt.
