Jim Carr (MSCS) is a professor in the Construction Management Department at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and teaches classes about green construction, sustainability, safety, electrical and mechanical systems of buildings, construction materials and safety. He has been instrumental in the development of online classes and has served as the coordinator of the department’s Master's Degree Program. He's very active with the campus community serving as chair of the Chancellor’s Sustainability Committee and the faculty senate Athletics Committee.
He's very active with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and represents his local association on the NAHB Board of Directors. He's also a member of the NAHB Safety and Health Committee, a past chair of the Education Committee, the Global Opportunities Board and the Faculty Advisory Board. A strong advocate of builder education, Mr. Carr assisted in the development of twelve courses for NAHB and taught numerous courses on residential construction principles and methods including Green Building for the Building Professional, Residential Estimating and Building Codes.
From 1990 to 2002 he was the coordinator of the construction program at The Ohio State University ATI in Wooster. During his academic career he's written numerous papers on various construction related topics. In 2000, he authored the book, Residential Foundations, published by the Home Builders Press. Additionally, he has delivered numerous seminars on construction practices both in the U.S. and in countries as far away as Eritrea, Russia, China and Kazakhstan.
Prior to joining the academic ranks he owned a small construction company in Norman, Oklahoma. Many of his projects included methods that are now considered green. His company built small to mid-size homes and remodeling projects and also did a few small commercial projects during the 17 years he was in business.
His academic credentials start with a Bachelor of Science in Education as a mathematics major from Clarion State College, Pennsylvania and a Master of Science in Construction Science from the University of Oklahoma. He's also earned three NAHB designations: Graduate Master Builder, Certified Green Professional and Certified Aging in Place Specialist.
