    What It's About

Post-disaster housing needs emerge rapidly and at scale, often overwhelming capacity for construction, permitting, and other systems along the path to recovery. Offsite construction and related system innovations present opportunities to shorten recovery timelines, lower costs, and improve housing resilience. The MIT Humanitarian Supply Chain Lab has been studying these systems from several different angles, including a framework to characterize post-disaster housing demand, case studies and models to analyze offsite housing supply chain configurations, and analysis of permitting and inspection processes to identify structural bottlenecks and opportunities for reform. In this session, we will discuss the work to date and directions for future research.
