Sean Shields
Structural Building Components Association (SBCA)
Billings, Montana
With a background in political communications, Sean Shields joined SBCA in 2004 as its grassroots lobbyist. In 2011, he transitioned to the association's Director of Communications and Managing Editor of its monthly trade publication, SBCA Magazine. Over the years, Sean gathered thousands of stories from manufacturers, home builders, tradespeople, and building designers and published several hundred articles on a wide range of topics under the residential construction umbrella. In 2015 and 2024, Sean oversaw two real-world framing studies called Framing the American Dream, that sought to gather apples-to-apples comparison data between traditional stick-framing methods and offsite structural building components. Sean now serves as Director of Strategic Partnerships at SBCA and seeks to share the lessons he's learned over the past 22 years with builders, building designers, and the public.
