What It's About:

Opportunity Zones are economically-distressed areas, certified by the U.S. Treasury, where new investments are eligible for preferential tax treatment, notably deferral of capital gains taxes. More than 8,700 Opportunity Zones have been designated thus far, and over 260 opportunity funds have been established to invest in these zones—offering a variety of new development possibilities for residential builders and developers, including multifamily and affordable housing. This session will examine the latest trends, developments and rules guiding the Opportunity Zone incentive program and how multifamily developers and residential builders can play a role in this emerging sector.

What You'll Learn:

  • Discover what land uses and types of housing have been developed in these zones thus far.
  • Understand the IRS regulations for using Opportunity Zone funding to build multifamily housing.
  • Hear examples of those already taking advantage of the Opportunity Zone incentive program and discuss potential strategies for development in these zones.

How to Attend:

Participants must be registered for a full registration package or a 1-day education with expo pass package valid for the day of the session they wish to attend. Seating for Building Knowledge sessions will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
