From Municipal Staff to Social Media: An Action Plan for Navigating Challenging Approvals

Thursday, February 2 | 1:00 - 2:00 PM
LVCC - W225

What It’s About

Achieving success with land entitlement approvals is one of the most challenging steps in the home building industry. And market trends of higher densities (smaller lots/units) and single-family-built-for-rent meant that achieving zoning approvals will be even more difficult in the future. In this session, discover how to effectively work with the political environment, municipality, project team, consultants and neighbors to create a successful outcome. Learn how to develop a strategic entitlement approach, build relationships, navigate social media and work through neighborhood opposition. Bring your zoning challenges and this panel, with more than 70 years of experience, will share their advice on how to help you achieve success.

What You’ll Learn

  • Learn tips and tricks for accelerating the entitlement process.
  • Discover ways to uncover how citizens, elected officials, and municipal staff view your development while also creating stronger relationships with each group.
  • Explore how to use social media to communicate and share your positive messages thoroughly, and learn how to navigate and understand the neighborhood social media reach.
  • Understand how to effectively work through neighborhood opposition with open dialogue and honest communication techniques.
