What It's About:
The rising cost of construction has caused builders to forgo the traditional starter home that has been affordable to young working families for decades. A recent design competition in Chicago, Disruptive Design, engaged architects, residents, builders, and the City in a collaborative process, challenging them to create forward-thinking construction products that would appeal to today’s middle-income buyers. You will hear first-hand how the competition finalists and winners helped tackle this issue, and what the organizers have learned in their efforts to build the winning design. Entries also brought unique solutions for accessibility, sustainability, and aging in place. The team is currently working to build two models and package their process and learnings to create a product that can be built across the country—get a first look during this fascinating presentation.
