Kendall Duke
Age: 30
Home Builders Association of Metro Mobile
Fortified Exteriors LLC.
Partner
Area: Single Family General Contracting, Residential Remodeling, Accounting, Sales/Marketing, Advertising/Market Research, Industry Consultant, Roofing/Siding/Sheet Metal Work
Kendall Duke’s roofing career started somewhat by accident. In 2015, at age 18, she took a job as a receptionist knowing very little about roofing. She listened, asked questions and learned everything she could. Before long, she was managing projects, leading a sales team and building a deep understanding of the roofing business. What started as a job became a career she never expected.
In 2022, Kendall became a partner and helped build Fortified Exteriors from the ground up. For the first time, she had a voice in the company’s direction and the opportunity to help shape a business she believed in.
Kendall has contributed to nearly every aspect of Fortified Exteriors, from its website and processes to customer experience and team development. In four years, the company has maintained a full schedule, sometimes installing two to three roofs a day, a five-star Google rating, three FORTIFIED Volume Awards and two Nappie Awards.
Kendall credits these accomplishments to her incredible partner and staff, loyal customers and a lot of hard work.
SNAPSHOT Q&A
WHAT’S THE MOST INSPIRING PART OF YOUR JOB?
The most inspiring part of my job is helping people. We’ve built a reputation in our community for being trustworthy, honest and a company people are comfortable recommending, and that means everything to me. I especially love helping the older generation. Working with a contractor can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially if the customer is on a fixed income or isn't comfortable with technology. Being able to slow things down, accommodate them and make the entire process easier is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.
WHAT's YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO ENGAGE WITH YOUR LOCAL HBA/BIA COMMUNITY?
I love that the HBA of Metro Mobile provides networking opportunities like bowling and Bingo, which are also great for our staff to do something together outside of work.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING?
I love being intentional about traveling, seeing new places and experiencing new things, going on a quick camping trip and spending time doing things close to my heart. I’m a proud board member of Mobile Mystical Ladies, a local Mardi Gras organization, and I created With Love Foundation, which focuses on breast cancer awareness, fundraising and giving back to someone fighting breast cancer every October.
FAVORITE SHOW OR MOVIE?
Movies don't usually keep my attention, but I LOVE Dancing with the Stars, and Love on the Spectrum makes me happy. Other than that, give me a game show or anything sports-related, and I’m content!
WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED TO EXPERIENCE OR TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WHILE AT IBS?
With the day-to-day demands of a business, I'm not usually able to take advantage of opportunities like this. I’m excited to step away without distractions and look forward to the education sessions and product demonstrations to see what products and ideas we could incorporate into our business.

SNAPSHOT Q&A
WHAT’S THE MOST INSPIRING PART OF YOUR JOB?
Taking a client’s wish list and treating the floor plan like a high-stakes puzzle —there’s nothing better than fitting every single requirement together until the layout clicks. Onsite, seeing a tricky tile installation come together always gets me. You can see the sheer craftsmanship the subcontractors put into it, and those details make the entire remodel.
WHAT's YOUR FAVORITE WAY TO ENGAGE WITH YOUR LOCAL HBA/BIA COMMUNITY?
I love the honest, around-the-table discussions where we talk through real-world challenges — whether that’s onsite hurdles, the economy or industry shifts —and share solutions to help each other succeed. I’m also a big fan of meeting passionate product reps, learning about cool new materials and bringing those game-changers back to my clients; it’s a huge win.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING?
Mornings start at the gym, but evenings are strictly reserved for a good glass of rosé and a charcuterie board with friends. Depending on the season, you’ll find me out on the lake wakeboarding in the summer or hitting the slopes to ski and snowboard all winter.
FAVORITE SHOW OR MOVIE?
My favorite movie is an eternal tie between Legally Blonde and Stick It. And as soon as the crisp fall weather hits, an annual re-watch of Gilmore Girls is non-negotiable.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED TO EXPERIENCE OR TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WHILE AT IBS?
Touring The New American Home® and The New American Remodel® to scope out fresh finishes and innovative features I can bring back home to spec for future clients. I’m also looking forward to connecting with everyone at the IBS House Party and the Young Professionals Party!
